Michael J. Sampson, DO FAOASM - WWE Ringside Physician
Michael J. Sampson, DO FAOASM, an AOA physician who is board certified in both Family Medicine and Sports Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He serves as a ringside physician for WWE working with the SmackDown brand. While not on the road with WWE, Dr. Sampson also is an associate professor of family medicine/sports medicine at the Georgia Campus -Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, GA.
A football and baseball athlete in high school and college himself, Dr. Sampson pursued sports medicine after college. Dr. Sampson has worked as team physician with many professional and college athletic teams including Grand Rapids Griffins Hockey, West Michigan Whitecaps Baseball, Grand Rapids Rampage Arena Football, Georgia Force Arena Football, Virginia Tech Athletics and Georgia Tech Athletics. He has contributed to several books about sports medicine, including Principles of Manual Sports Medicine and Oxford Handbook Sports Medicine where he served as a chapter editor. In addition, he serves on The Physician and Sports Medicine journal's editorial research panel. He also is speaks on a national level as a sports medicine specialist.
A fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (FAOASM), Dr. Sampson serves on the AOASM Board of Directors. He also is a 2007 recipient of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Young Physician of the Year Award.
After receiving his osteopathic medical degree from the A.T. Still University-Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Sampson completed an internship and Family Medicine Residency at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich. He served as Chief Resident his 2ndand 3rdyears of residency. He completed his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was the Alpha Fellow.
