World Wrestling Federation Entertainment confirms WWE Smackdown! to be broadcast live on Thursday from Compaq Center in Houston

Sept 12, 2001

STAMFORD, CONN., September 12, 2001 - WWE Entertainment, Inc., confirmed that WWE SmackDown!, the live event scheduled for this Thursday night at the Compaq Center in Houston, will go on as planned. This event was originally slated for Tuesday, September 11, and was rescheduled due to the tragedy yesterday. WWE SmackDown! will start at 6:30 PM CST and will be broadcast live on UPN at 8:00 PM EST/7:00PM CST.

"After much deliberation and discussions with local officials in Houston, we have decided that the show should go on. We do this to support the call by President Bush and other political leaders to get Americans back to their everyday routines after this barbaric act of terrorism, and for many Americans, WWE SmackDown! on Thursday night is part of their regular routine," said Linda McMahon, CEO of WWE. "This week's WWE SmackDown! will depart from our traditional format, and will be a special tribute to the spirit of the American people and our democracy, both of which have shone brightly during this terrible tragedy."
