Two winners to take home World Wrestling Federation contracts on live season finale of WWE Tough Enough September 27 on MTV
Success of first season prompts WWE Tough Enough 2 open casting call for new season extended through October 5
Based on the success of the first season, WWE Entertainment and MTV Productions today announced that the show has been renewed for a second season. WWE Tough Enough 2 will begin production this fall and will air on MTV in early 2002. An open casting call is being held through October 5. Information and rules for submitting an application and video are available at www.wwetoughenough.com.
"WWE Tough Enough received great reviews right from the start. It consistently delivered the teen audience and it was one of the highest rated regularly scheduled programs on cable every Thursday night," said Stuart Snyder, President and COO of WWE. "As an added bonus, viewers of WWE Tough Enough, who were unfamiliar with our traditional programming, gained an insightful perspective of the WWE brand of entertainment."
"WWE Tough Enough has been an incredible success and the live element in the season finale will no doubt add a unique twist to reality programming," said Brian Graden, President, Programming, MTV. "We look forward to working with WWE Entertainment on WWE Tough Enough 2 to provide our audience with a compelling new season."
WWE Tough Enough, a reality-based television series documenting the discovery and creation of the next male and female WWE Superstars, debuted on MTV June 21, 2001. Of the more than 5,000 applications received as part of an open casting call held earlier in the year, 230 semifinalists were invited to participate in a live audition at WWE New York. The series followed 13 finalists as they lived together, trained together, and competed against each other to achieve their ultimate dream - contracts with the WWE. The weekly, half-hour show featured special appearances by WWE Superstars including Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley. WWE Tough Enough 2 will follow this same winning format with some variations to be announced at a later date. Like the first season, WWE Tough Enough 2 will be co-produced by MTV Productions and WWE Entertainment, Inc.
