STAMFORD Conn. LOS ANGELES–July 12 2000–The XFL a new professional football league jointly owned and operated by WWE Entertainment Inc. (NMS: WWE) and NBC announced today that a Los Angeles-based team will be one of eight scheduled to kick off the league’s inaugural season on February 3 2001. The Los Angeles entry which will be given a team name at a later date will play five regular-season home games at the L.A. Coliseum.

The XFL has also announced that J.K. McKay has been named Vice President and General Manager of the Los Angeles franchise.

"L.A.’s big league football team is now from the XFL. That is tremendously exciting for us " said Basil V. DeVito Jr. President of the XFL. "The L.A. Coliseum is one of America’s great stadiums and J.K. McKay is the perfect executive to head up the L.A. team."

McKay is a graduate of USC where he played on two national championship football teams (1972 1974) and in three Rose Bowls (1973 1974 and 1975). McKay played in the National Football League for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1976-1979 and was also employed by the team as an assistant to the team’s president and general manager. "I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of the XFL in its inaugural season " said McKay.

J. K. McKAY

J.K. McKay is a 1975 graduate of the University of Southern California where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. While attending USC he played on two national championship football teams (1972 1974) and in three Rose Bowls (1973 1974 and 1975). In 1975 he was named the most valuable player of the Rose Bowl. He was recently inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame.

After graduation from USC McKay served as assistant coach at Oregon State University in 1976 and he played in the National Football League for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1976 – 1979. While playing professional football McKay entered law school at Stetson College of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1982. During law school McKay was employed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an assistant to the team’s president and general manager.

McKay has been a practicing attorney since 1982. In 1986 he joined the law firm of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory as an associate and became a partner in 1990 where he specialized in real estate litigation. McKay represented the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in negotiating the potential relocation of the franchise and consulted in the financing and construction of a new stadium for the Buccaneers in Tampa.

In 1998 he worked for Majestic Realty Co./New Coliseum Partners as Executive Director of Football Operations. Over the last two years McKay was responsible for negotiating the renovation of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and for the acquisition of an expansion NFL franchise.
