STAMFORD CT August 22 2000 — WWE Entertainment Inc. (NMS: WWE) and Chef Boyardee present the pay-per-view extravaganza SummerSlam live Sunday August 27 2000 at 8 p.m. ET from the sold-out Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh North Carolina.
The main event of SummerSlam will feature The Rock defending the WWE Championship in a Triple Threat Match against Triple H and Kurt Angle. Triple H is a former WWE Champion and feels he is destined to get the title back. Kurt Angle is the 2000 King of the Ring and believes that it is his time to become Champion. The Rock is at a disadvantage in this match as he does not have to get pinned to lose the Championship. Over the past few weeks tensions have built among the three Superstars. The marriage between Triple H and his wife Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley is on shaky ground and Kurt Angle is at the epicenter. Triple H feels that Angle has been more than just a friend to Stephanie and has made it clear that he wants Angle to keep his distance. Both Shane and Vince McMahon have tried to stop the bickering between the two and have them instead start focusing on becoming WWE Champion.
In other action at SummerSlam Chris Jericho will battle Chris Benoit in a two-out-of- three falls match. These two Superstars are no strangers to each other. Over the past few weeks the two athletes have interfered in each other’s matches costing them both WWE gold. Both Superstars are former Intercontinental Champions and SummerSlam is the chance to prove who is the better man.
Another match at SummerSlam will see the Undertaker against Kane. The two brothers formed a bond over the past few months but last Monday on Raw Is War that bond was broken. Kane turned on his brother and chokeslammed him through the ring canvas. Undertaker has vowed revenge on Kane and will have his opportunity at SummerSlam.
SummerSlam will be broadcast live from the sold-out Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh North Carolina via pay-per-view and satellite technologies on Sunday August 27 2000 at 8 p.m. ET with a replay immediately following at 11 p.m. This three-hour spectacular is available via cable and satellite providers in all 50 states for $29.95 as well as internationally in Canada Mexico and the Caribbean. An "Encore Presentation" of SummerSlam will take place Tuesday August 29 at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET.
