Smackdown Your Vote! Registers 40,000 Voters In First Month
(STAMFORD CONN. – August 30 2000) – More than 40 000 people have registered to vote in the first month of the "Smackdown Your Vote!" campaign.
"Smackdown Your Vote! " a non-partisan voter registration initiative is being undertaken by WWE Entertainment Inc. (NMS: WWE) MTV’s Choose or Lose Youth Vote 2000 and Project Vote Smart. On-line registration for the program is being provided through links to Rock the Vote.
The Rock kicked off the voter program with a successful appearance at the Republican National Convention. The Rock and Chyna also attended at the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles to promote the voter registration campaign.
New public service announcements (PSAs) promoting the program are now appearing on CBS UPN and TNN. The PSA campaign marks the first time that WWE superstars have appeared in public service announcements outside the WWE television programming.
"The response to ‘Smackdown Your Vote!’ has been outstanding " said Linda McMahon chief executive officer of WWE. "It shows that the youth of America will engage themselves in the political process if it is made relevant and the WWE’s involvement in voter registration is making that connection."
"Smackdown Your Vote!" has been registering and bringing election information to thousands of previously unregistered voters during WWE arena events at WWE New York a site-based entertainment complex in New York City’s Times Square and through the company’s Web site wwevote.com as well as through MTV’s chooseorlose.com.

MTV has renewed its commitment to informing young people about the political process the presidential election and registering them to vote with Choose or Lose 2000. In 1992 1996 and 2000 Choose or Lose strategically partnered with a diverse group of non-profit government corporate and online organizations including Rock the Vote and the over 60 members of the Youth Vote 2000 Coalition. By teaming up with the WWE Choose or Lose will have an effective new partner to reach out and register the largest new generation of voters since the baby boom.

Project Vote Smart was founded by former presidents Ford and Carter and other national leaders as a non-partisan research library.
