XFL Holds First Supplemental Draft; Eight Teams Choose 65 Players
STAMFORD CONN. December 29 2000 – The XFL held its first supplemental draft today and the league’s eight teams chose a total of 65 players. The draft was conducted via teleconference between league headquarters in Stamford Conn. and team headquarters in each XFL city.
In the supplemental draft XFL teams were able to add players who were not eligible when the league staged its Player Allocation Selection System (P.A.S.S.) draft last October. Through the October draft XFL teams stocked their rosters with 70 players including those taken during the draft’s open phase and acquired via territorial selection. After today’s supplemental draft teams have 24 hours to reduce their rosters back to 70.
The supplemental draft followed two XFL mini-camps staged in November and earlier this month at which teams were able to evaluate their squads. All eight XFL teams open pre-season training camps next week.
The four West Conference teams (Las Vegas Outlaws Los Angeles Xtreme Memphis Maniax San Francisco Demons) will hold training camps in Las Vegas while the four Eastern Conference squads (Birmingham Thunderbolts Chicago Enforcers New York/New Jersey Hitmen Orlando Rage) will train in Orlando.
Jointly owned and operated by WWE Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: WWE) and NBC the XFL will kick off on February 3 2001.
