STAMFORD Conn./NEW YORK September 25 2001 – After 12 episodes 13 competitors have been narrowed down to five finalists. One male and one female will be selected as winners of WWE contracts when the live season finale of WWE Tough Enough airs on Thursday September 27 on MTV (10:00pm – 11:00pm EST). The season finale will be broadcast live from WWE New York in Times Square.
Based on the success of the first season WWE Entertainment and MTV Productions today announced that the show has been renewed for a second season. WWE Tough Enough 2 will begin production this fall and will air on MTV in early 2002. An open casting call is being held through October 5. WWE Tough Enough a reality-based television series documenting the discovery and creation of the next male and female WWE Superstars debuted on MTV June 21 2001. Of the more than 5 000 applications received as part of an open casting call held earlier in the year 230 semifinalists were invited to participate in a live audition at WWE New York. The series followed 13 finalists as they lived together trained together and competed against each other to achieve their ultimate dream – contracts with the WWE. The weekly half-hour show featured special appearances by WWE Superstars including Triple H Stone Cold Steve Austin and Mick Foley. WWE Tough Enough 2 will follow this same winning format with some variations to be announced at a later date. Like the first season WWE Tough Enough 2 will be co-produced by MTV Productions and WWE Entertainment Inc.
