Chris Jericho Becomes First Undisputed Champion of Professional Wrestling

STAMFORD Conn.–Dec. 9 2001–For the first time in more than 50 years professional wrestling has one true undisputed champion. Earlier tonight at the WWE’s "Vengeance" Pay-Per-View at the sold-out San Diego Sports Arena Chris Jericho became the undisputed champion of all professional wrestling.

In controversial fashion Jericho defeated in separate matches World Champion The Rock and WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin to unify those two titles for the first time. Earlier in the evening Austin had defeated Kurt Angle to set up his match with Jericho.

Jericho begins his historic title reign Monday night on RAW on TNN at 9 p.m. (EDT) broadcast live from Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim Calif.
