HOUSTON TEX. September 30 2002 – The Smackdown Your Vote!® Pledge To Participate Tour’s final event at Rice University in Houston ended on a high note with the Tour surpassing the 100 000 signature mark for its Constitution signing program.

The six-city tour – sponsored by World Wrestling Entertainment® Participate America Foundation and Weekly Reader — encouraged Americans to become more active citizens. It also signaled the start of National Civic Participation Week from September 11 to 17 when citizens from all walks of life came together to celebrate democracy and civic participation in events across the United States.

During today’s event WWE® Superstars Rob Van Dam® Spike Dudley® and Stacy Keibler® were joined by Houston dignitaries and other citizens in renewing their shared commitment to their country and Constitution by signing a replica Constitutional scroll and making a commitment to "Pledge To Participate" by volunteering communicating with elected officials and contributing to worthy causes. They also registered to vote in the 2002 elections.

The Tour and National Civic Participation Week have both met with success. More than 104 000 people participated in the Tour by signing a replica Constitution at events and on-line at wwe.com. In addition the Smackdown Your Vote! partners led by the Participate America Foundation and its 586 events during National Civic Participation Week and Rock The Vote along with Youth Vote Coalition and Project Vote Smart have registered more than 145 000 voters over the past several weeks. During National Civic Participation Week more than 50 000 volunteers logged 150 000 hours of volunteer activity during the week. More than 85 000 students participated in or led National Civic Participation Week events. More than 50 000 people Pledged To Participate to improve their communities and their democracy.
