"WWE® will conduct almost double the live events in international markets in 2003 compared to 2002 " said Roger Marment WWE® ’s Executive Vice President of International Business Development. "We could not undertake this type of international touring schedule without the brand extension that established two separate touring companies representing our RAW® and SmackDown!® television brands."
WWE® will conduct 15 international live events in 2002 culminating with a three-city tour of India in November 2002. The company expects to almost double that number of international events in 2003. By comparison WWE® held two international live events in 2001. Additional international touring helped to provide a 42% increase in international revenues in fiscal year 2002. Total international revenues for the fiscal year 2002 were $31.4 million.
In addition new licensing agreements have been forged in the Pacific Rim and the United Kingdom as a result of interest piqued by expanded international touring and the increasing international popularity of WWE television programming which can be seen in more than130 countries. "Television and live events represent the backbone of our business and drive the success of our consumer product home entertainment and wireless and digital initiatives " said Marment. "Our licensing agents in Europe Australia New Zealand and Asia are finding increased licensing and merchandising opportunities as companies see first-hand the loyalty and enthusiasm of the WWE® fans in their countries."
