WWE Superstars Send Messages to the Troops

STAMFORD Conn. April 7 2003- World Wrestling Entertainment™ Superstars have posted messages of encouragement and thanks to the men and women of the United States military on wwe.com. The messages from Hulk Hogan™ Triple H™ Shawn Michaels™ Kurt Angle™ Chris Jericho® Maven™ Chuck Palumbo™ Tazz™ and Sergeant Slaughter™ can be viewed at http://messagetothetroops.wwe.com.

The company is also creating a Pen Pal program for military personnel to correspond with their favorite Superstars.

WWE continues to receive emails and letters from the troops on the front lines as well as from their families looking to provide their loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan with some memories of home.

WWE honored requests from some Navy and Army personnel and sent tapes of WrestleMania® XIX to U. S. Navy Carrier Battle Groups in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean that are flying missions over Iraq. WrestleMania XIX was also sent to soldiers in Kuwait. A tape has also been sent to the Navy’s Chief of Information for further distribution.

To date WWE has distributed more than $600 000 worth of t-shirts tickets promotional items magazines and CDs to military personnel operating in Iraq Kuwait and Afghanistan.

The war in Iraq has hit close to home for some Superstars who have relatives fighting there. WWE Superstar Chuck Palumbo has a brother Chris flying helicopters for the 101st Airborne Division. In his message to the troops Chuck concludes: “Chris if you hear me I love you. Work your butt off take care of business and come home soon…”

WWE Superstar The Undertaker® dedicated his match at WrestleMania XIX to his nephew who is a member of the Army’s Third Infantry Division fighting in Iraq.

Goldberg™ the former WCW® Champion who this week joined World Wrestling Entertainment after two years away from professional wrestling said one of the reasons he decided to join the WWE were his fans in the military. “The reason I came back to wrestling in the U.S. is because I got an e-mail from a guy whose brother died over in the war. He was shot by a sniper. The kid was 19 years old and he lived breathed and ate Goldberg. Hearing something like that makes you sit back and really think ‘Where the hell are my priorities? What’s my calling?’ ” said Goldberg. “So for every kid that’s walked up to me and asked me when I’m coming back for every kid that’s e-mailed me…and for everybody over there in the war fighting and risking their lives to ensure our freedom … that’s why I came back.”

World Wrestling Entertainment continues to intermittently dedicate its WWE RAW® and WWE SmackDown!™ television programs to the men and women of the United States military. A few days before WrestleMania XIX in Seattle WWE Superstars Shawn Michaels and Ivory™ visited the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor Washington to meet with the troops stationed there and the families of military personnel who are fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
