World Wrestling Entertainment and WWE Superstars Raise $80,000 for Families of ...
CHICAGO Ill. Sept. 29 2003 – World Wrestling Entertainment in conjunction with FYE – For Your Entertainment retail stores today completed its national effort to raise funds for the families of military personnel killed in the war with Iraq donating $80 000 to the Armed Forces Families Scholarship and Assistance Fund which is part of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.
The final event of WWE’s “WrestleMania XX Benefit for Armed Forces Families” was held today at the FYE in Chicago’s Stratford Square Mall where a check presentation was made by World Heavyweight Champion Bill Goldberg™ WWE Superstars Shawn Michaels™ Trish Stratus™ The Hurricane™ Rosey™ and Maven™ and FYE District Manager Doug Cerise to Tom Ripley of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation with a couple of members of the Marine Corps wrestling team in attendance.
WWE raised the funds through the sale of special WrestleMania XX posters at participating FYE stores. WWE Superstars appeared at the stores to sign the posters for those who purchased them. All proceeds from the fundraisers were donated to the Armed Forces Families Scholarship and Assistance Fund.
“The families of our Armed Forces are the unsung heroes of America ” said WWE Superstar Shawn Michaels who was instrumental in organizing the fundraising effort. “This money will provide meaningful assistance to these families who have suffered the greatest sacrifice one can make for their country – the loss of a loved one.”

Now it is our turn to take action and honor not only the memories and courage of those who have given their lives but to also provide assistance the families of these heroes.”
“Our Foundation is extremely thankful to the WWE for their support and to the WWE Superstars who participated in these fundraising events ” said James Kallstrom Chairman of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation. “All of the funds raised in this effort go directly to benefit the families of troops killed in Operation Enduring Freedom. We are proud to be of service to the children of our fallen military personnel and WWE’s participation in our fundraising efforts will greatly assist in our ability to provide scholarships bonds. Our goal is to ease the burden on these families who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the freedoms found in our great country.”
The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation continues to accept donations for the children of those troops killed in Operation Enduring Freedom. The Foundation donates 100 percent of all funds received; there is no administration overhead. To date the Foundation has given more than 200 scholarships about 60 percent of its goal.
