WWE And NBC Universal Tag Team On Demand To Help Cable Operators Drive PPV and ...
Broadband services benefit as well from “HighSpeedstakes” promotion
NEW YORK N.Y. and STAMFORD Conn. September 19 2006 – NBC Universal On Demand and World Wrestling Entertainment® are joining forces for a video on demand (VOD) and pay-per-view (PPV) promotion to help cable operators attract and upgrade digital and broadband subscribers while increasing revenue for PPV and the On Demand platform.
Consumers can separately purchase the interactive pay-per-view “Cyber Sunday™” from WWE starting November 5th and “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift ” starting October 26th offered by NBCU on VOD and PPV. If consumers order both programs and send in their bill showing proof of purchase by November 23 2006 they will receive a WWE and The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift Limited Edition Car Kit gift pack of automotive paraphernalia while supplies last.
Additionally from October 26 2006 through February 28 2007 consumers can visit www.highspeedstakes.com and enter the “HighSpeedstakes” for a chance to win a grand prize of a driving school experience with a WWE Superstar. This co-branded microsite will also feature exclusive footage of “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and provide a link to vote for “Cyber Sunday.”
Fans also can participate in WWE’s “Cyber Sunday” PPV event on November 5 by casting votes online at www.wwe.com to determine among other things which Superstars and match stipulations may be involved in the PPV event. For many situations fans can vote right up until the match starts on PPV providing almost immediate feedback.
Participating cable and satellite systems will be offered an array of marketing materials in English and Spanish and will have the opportunity to tag all materials with broadband information and promotions. NBCU and WWE will support the initiative with national exposure and a media buy.
“The premise behind Cyber Sunday which is largely a broadband involved interactive PPV event and the natural fit between WWE fans and fans of The Fast and the Furious franchise made for a wonderful opportunity to join forces with NBCU. The result is a win/win/win for WWE NBCU and our affiliates ” said Peter Clifford Senior Vice President WWE Affiliate Sales and Marketing. “Using our pay-per-view and VOD assets we are giving our customers a great opportunity to sell more high speed services.”
“We are thrilled to partner with WWE to create an integrated campaign that not only will increase on demand and pay-per-view buys but will also attract subscribers to operators’ digital broadband offerings ” said Stacy Melle Vice President Marketing On-Demand for NBCU Cable.
About The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift:
From the producer of the worldwide blockbuster hits "The Fast and the Furious" and its sequel “2 Fast 2 Furious ” comes the latest installment of the adrenaline-inducing series built on speed-"The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." Set in the sexy and colorful underground world of Japanese drift racing the newest and fastest customized rides go head-to-head on some of the most perilous courses ever seen.
The film stars Lucas Black ("Friday Night Lights") as Shaun Boswell an outsider and loner at school whose only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing-which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his father in the military in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.
In Tokyo Shaun feels even more shut out in a foreign land of strange customs and codes of honor. But it doesn’t take him long to find the action when he and a new American friend discover the underground world of drift racing-a deadly combination of brutal speed on a heart-stopping course of hairpin turns and switchbacks.
